The rumors you've heard about Wendy Schulz's Photography classes being wonderful are true!
Six weeks ago, I began taking an on-line photography class by Wendy Schulz.
I am not a professional photographer.
I simply wanted to improve my photography skills.
To capture those everyday moments of my family that are so special.
To say that this class is wonderful is an understatement.
Wendy has met & even exceeded every expectation I had!
She is an absolute fountain of knowledge in both digital photography & PhotoShop.
This girl has resources & tutorials that make my head spin.
Ask her a question & she not only delivers a thorough explanation, she SHOWS you what to do.
(Which is very important for someone like me who is visual.)
She will walk you through how to do something step-by-step...by step (!) if necessary.
She is relentless & won't give up until you understand something.
I love how she takes photos we submit for each assignment and slices & dices them.
She does all kinds of fancy things in Photoshop to illustrate how we could have improved each photo.
She uses simple, easy to understand examples to explain what she means.
She even educates those who need help with math/ratios (hmm...who would that be?) to better understand Photography.
(Who knew there was so much math involved in the Art of Photography? Somebody left that part out.)
After completing each assignment, we have scheduled 1x1 chats with Wendy via "Hello".
This is something you don't want to miss.
You learn so much in these chats -- a private tutor at your disposal for 1 hour!
Wendy doesn't hold anything back.
She wants each student to succeed & will go to great lengths to do so.
She even checks up on each of us to see how we are doing.
Wendy has a special gift for teaching & can identify areas we need help with.
She really knows how to lift a person up with positive praise.
Her sense of humor is awesome.
We laugh in this class.
Alot.
Each assignment is broken up into two (2) different levels: Beginner & Advanced.
I am amazed at how Wendy is able to juggle the two, but she does a fantastic job.
Each of us is able to learn from the other's questions & photos.
We beginners started out learning how to shoot in full Manual.
No more Auto mode.
This was a little scary at first, but now it is the only way I shoot.
We cover the very important skill of nailing exposure SOOC.
Along with that, Wendy covers the rules of photography (the triangle).
She covers Natural Light & dealing with tricky lighting.
She emphasizes taking photos with intention.
Wendy covers every important aspect of photography.
I hesitate to go into great detail out of respect for Wendy.
I promise anyone (beginner or advanced) taking this class will LOVE it.
We learn how to edit photos successfully in Photoshop.
This was an added bonus for me.
We cover anything & everything in this class!
Again, Wendy's tutorials are amazing.
If you look at some of my photo albums on the left-hand side,
you will see a classic newbie mistake of {shudder} over-Photoshopping.
I need to go back & re-edit these photos as soon as I have time.
Wendy is also very accessible which is so important.
She answers e-mails & questions posted on the board in a very timely manner.
In my opinion, this is key to being successful: accessibility & timeliness.
The class is "held" on a small, private board monitored by Wendy.
All lessons & assignments are posted here.
There are six other women in my class who are amazing.
See the "Classmates I Adore" section on the right-hand side to see their work & what they have to say about Wendy & her class.
I love the smaller environment as it makes me more apt to post questions.
Everyone is so helpful & I learn so much from the others also.
I now categorize my photography in two stages:
BW - Before Wendy
AW - After Wendy
If you read this & have any additional questions, please post here or e-mail.
I'll do my best to help you out.
